This attractive, 27-story, rental apartment building at 229 West 60th Street was developed in 2008 by Laurence Ginsberg and has 301 units.  It is known as the Sessanta, which is Italian for 60, and is adjacent to his Adagio residential condominium building, the Adagio, a 9-story, 41-unit project at 243 West 60th Street.

It was designed by H. Thomas O’Hara and Andres Escobar designed its interior spaces.

Bottom Line

The building is in the center of a new residential cluster of buildings that are convenient to the Hudson River and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and it is distinguished by having its own tennis court and a very attractive formal garden with a water feature.


 

Description

This building has fireplaces and 11-foot ceilings, a garage and an indoor swimming pool overlooking a formal garden with a fountain wall, a large lawn with pavers and an elliptical green, and tennis court.

The lobby is very elegant with an impressive concierge station beneath a large chandelier.


 

Amenities

In addition to its tennis court and formal garden with water feature, the Sessanta has an indoor, 40-foot-long pool overlooking the tennis court and garden, a garage, private storage, cold storage, a fitness room, an on-site valet, a 24/7doorman, a live-in superintendent, a business center and a large media room.

The through-block lobby has a double-height ceiling.

The building will have cold storage for food deliveries.


 

Apartments

Most apartments offer washer/dryer hookups and have walnut floors and Allmilmo kitchens have GE Profile stainless steel appliances, Caesarstone countertops and Bianco maple cabinetry. 

There are some balconies and terraces and the building has a full-floor penthouse.  Some apartments have windowed kitchens and windowed bathrooms.

Penthouse O is a two-bedroom unit with a 20-foot-long living room and an open, pass-through kitchen and a three-sided, 1,214-square-foot terrace that faces south.

Penthouse A is a two-bedroom unit with an 11-foot-long living room and a 9-foot-long dining area next to an open, pass-through kitchen and a 935-square-foot terrace.
