Carter's Review
This handsome, grey-brick, 6-story rental apartment building at 46-09 Eleventh Avenue in Long Island City was erected in 2014 by Eckstein Development and designed by GF55.
It has 59 apartments, of which 12 are “affordable.”
It is close to several subways.
Bottom Line
Subtle masonry elevates this boxy, mid-rise, rental apartment building with an off-center, metallic woven façade element that rises a bit above its roof line in Long Island City to a sophisticated and artistic modern design statement.
Description
The brickwork at either end of the long façade and on both sides of the off-center pier of metallic panels in basketweave pattern is “pixelated,” that is, individual bricks project from the façade in vertical groups of three, each differently spaced horizontally.
The effect is quite textual but also very subtle as is the basketweave pattern of metal panels and the angled metallic entrance market.
The windows have two vertical panes and are over discrete air-conditioners that contribute nicely to the façades texture.
Amenities
The building has an entrance marquee, a landscaped courtyard, a fitness center, parking, roof deck and bicycle storage.
