Maya Angelou’s passing nearly two years ago was a heartbreaking event that shook many. Angelou was not only a lauded author and poet, but also a profound voice and champion for civil rights.

Though in the last decade of her life, Angelou spent most of her time in Winston-Salem, NC, she did keep her townhouse located at 58 West 120th Street in the Mount Morris Park Historic District of Harlem. Today, the Times reports that the historic home has been placed on the market for $5.1 million.

The home was constructed in the early 1900s and it underwent a full renovation when Angelou moved in during 2012. “It was a dilapidated shell…the victim of vandals, with missing stairs and rotting floor beams,” she said.

Rising four stories with a basement, the townhouse boasts an elevator, 12-foot ceilings, original details including stained glass doors and a dumbwaiter, two fireplaces, five bedrooms, eight baths and a backyard. It is also the largest single-family home in the district.
