235 East 57th Street: Review and Ratings

between Third Avenue & Second Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 235 East 57th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, white-brick apartment building was built in 1960. It is a cooperative and has 94 units.

The 18-story building is across the street from PS59, a low-rise structure that affords this building more open views than many other buildings on this famous cross-street. It has some terraces, a canopied entrance, a doorman, discrete air-conditioners, consistent fenestration, and an attractive rooftop watertank enclosure. The building has a small, step-down lobby, but no garage, no sidewalk landscaping and no health club.

While there is considerable traffic in this neighborhood, it is also very convenient to the midtown office district, shopping and transportation. There is very good cross-town bus service and an express subway station is nearby at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue.
