between Tenth Avenue & Eleventh Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 520 West 43rd Street by Carter Horsley

This large, slab, mid-block, residential tower at 520 West 43rd Street between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues in Clinton has many spectacular views because of its location close to the Hudson River.

This 33-story building was built in 1998 by the Gotham Organization and its utilitarian tower has two low setbacks and a two-story limestone base on 43rd Street.

It has 375 rental apartments.

It was sold the Gotham Organization after a lobby and a lounge renovation in November, 2013 for about $170 million to AEW Core Property Trust, an open-end core real estate fund.

It was known as New Gotham but in 2014 it changed its name to The Helux, which stands for "Hell's Kitchen" and "Luxury."

It was designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron.

It is across 43rd Street from the Beacon High School.

According to a November 26, 2013 article in The New York Post by Lois Weiss, the “80/20 project has six years left on its 421A 20-year property tax abatement.”

Bottom Line

There is good cross-town bus service on 42nd Street and the building is relatively close to the Javits Convention Center, the Circle Line boat dock, the Theater District, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Bus Terminal.

The pale-orange brick building is very close to numerous tall residential buildings and is several blocks north of the Hudson Yards.
