Review of 200 East 36th Street by Carter Horsley

Until the late 1980's, the far east mid-30's were something of a no-man's land, dominated by traffic to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. The tunnel and its traffic remain, of course, but a luxury high-rise enclave has arisen, pedestrian access to a promenade along the East River has been improved as has the area's the general ambiance. This attractive, nicely proportioned, 19-story building, which adjoins the Murray Hill district, was erected in 1956 and converted to a cooperative in 1985. It has 148 apartments. It has a doorman and some corner windows and some terraces. The building has a nice garden and some unusual layouts at the top. Cross-town bus service is two blocks south and the building is not far from Grand Central Terminal at 42nd Street.
