129 Lafayette Street: Review and Ratings

at The Southwest corner of Centre Street View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 129 Lafayette Street by Carter Horsley

This stately 11-story commercial building at 129 Lafayette Street on the southeast corner at Howard Street one block north of Canal Street was erected circa 1911 as a facility for the printing industry.

In 2004, it was converted by TriBeach Holdings LLC, of which William Fegan is a principal, into 27 luxury condominium apartments including two penthouses that were added to the structure.

Bottom Line

A very handsome pre-war building that would be at home on West End Avenue in the midst of the hustle and bustle of SoHo and Chinatown.

Description

The building has a two-story rusticated limestone base, large windows, three stringcourses and an impressive cornice. It is across Lafayette Street from an attractive Holiday Inn.

There is good public transportation and excellent local shopping and this location is very convenient to SoHo, NoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown.

Amenities

The building has a roof terrace for all its residents and a 15-foot-high, spacious lobby and is pet friendly.

It has no garage and no sidewalk landscaping.

Apartments

Apartments, which range in size from 1,200 to 5,200 square feet, have 12-foot-high ceilings, entrance foyers, Marvin wood-frame windows and white oak floors. Many have balconies and most are corner units.

The south penthouse has a heated "in-ground" pool on its terrace.

Penthouse A is a duplex with a total of 4,647 square feet of interior space and 2.382 square feet of exterior space with four bedrooms on the lower level.

Apartment 3C is a two-bedroom unit that has a 19-foot-long entrance gallery that leads past a 14-foot-wide office with a 10-foot-long balcony to a 20-foot-long balcony with an 16-foot-long open kitchen with an island and a 35-foot-long living room.

Apartment 10A is a three-bedroom unit that has an entrance vestibule that leads to a 33-foot-long living room that opens onto an 18-foot-long dining room and an 18-foot-long open kitchen with an island.

Apartment 8A is a three-bedroom unit with a 9-foot-wide entry foyer that opens onto a 37-foot-long living room with an open kitchen with an island.
