117 East 72nd Street: Review and Ratings

between Lexington Avenue & Park Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 117 East 72nd Street by Carter Horsley

This well-located, 15-story, building was erected as a cooperative in 1927 and has 259 apartments.

The building has a three-story, limestone base, the first story of which is rusticated. The canopied entrance is surmounted by a handsome broken pediment with a vase in the center. The building has attractive wrought-iron doors and small balconies, sidewalk landscaping, a doorman, discrete air-conditioners and consistent fenestration. It does not have a garage.

The building is convenient to some cultural institutions and many world-famous boutiques along Madison Avenue as well as many restaurants and neighborhood shopping along Lexington and Third Avenues. Although the nearest subway station is several blocks away, there is good bus service on this major cross-town street.
