Carter's Review

This light brown, 4-story building at 73 Wooster Street was erected in 1929 as a parking garage that was later used by a cardboard box manufacturer.

In 1997, it was acquired by Chelsfield U.S.A., a subsidiary of Chelsfield P.L.C. of London.

The tan-colored building is also known as 387-9 West Broadway.

It was converted in 2004 to six condominium lofts designed by SLCE Architects.

A February 15, 2004 article in The New York Times said that the conversion cost the developer more than $30 million. Each penthouse has a greenhouse and a terrace and all apartments have 14.5-foot ceilings.

The conversion removed part of the middle of the building to allow more light into the units.

Chelsfield U.S.A. also converted the former Westbury Hotel on Madison Avenue at 69th Street into 47 condominium apartments.
