between Manhattan Avenue & Graham Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 130 Jackson Street by Carter Horsley

This development at 130 Jackson Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was originally a Civil War munitions foundry and later a book depository before being converted in 2007 to a residential condominium comprised of two buildings with 21 apartments.

The development, which is known as the Jackson Foundry Lofts, is between Manhattan and Graham avenues.

Penson Horrigan LLC was the developer.

Standard Architects of which Michael Shapiro is a principal designed the conversion.

Bottom Line

An architectural mélange, this low-rise condominium apartment building is better inside than out with exposed timber columns and rolling fire doors.

Description

This project has two red-brick building façades and two white façades. Part of it dates to 1865.  There on fire escapes on one of the red-brick façades and one of the white façades.

There is a narrow, light-colored and angular metallic addition with irregular fenestration on one side that adds a light-colored fifth floor, partially setback, to another end of the building where its façade “dips” to three stories near the middle.

The building has a few balconies and terraces.

The building has two very handsome, glass-and-metal entrance marquees with the building’s name inside the outer girder of the one on a red-brick façade.

Five apartments have their own entrance at 364 Manhattan Avenue.

Amenities

The building has a roof deck, and elevator, video security and is pet friendly.
