between Second Avenue & Third Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 222 East 81st Street by Carter Horsley

This very handsome, mid-block, 6-story residential building at 222 East 81st Street between Third and Second avenues contains only three rental units.

It was built in 2016 by John A. Stokes Jr., and designed by Isaac & Stern Architects, whose other recent projects have included

Paris Forino is the interior designer.

This building is very similar to another one also designed by Isaac & Stern at 322 East 9th Street that has arched windows on tie fourth and sixth floors.

Bottom Line

An elegant and distinguished, boutique mid-block, doorman residential building with only three large apartments.

Description

This very attractive, mid-block, limestone, residential building has large arched windows on its third floor, rusticated quoins, Juliet balconies on the fourth and fifth floors and balustrades in front of the second floor windows.

The building has a simple but attractive cornice and sidewalk landscaping and some landscaped roof decks.

The lobby has a stone floor with black-and-white diagonally striped bands that thematically related to the black-and-white striped floors in the bathrooms.

Amenities

The building has a full-time doorman, a Siedel security system, and key-locked elevators.

Apartments

Apartments have open kitchens with marble countertops and backsplashes and Viking, SubZero and Miele appliances.  Bathrooms have free-standing tubs and radiant heating floors.

The Garden unit is a 4,000-square-foot triplex with 4 bedrooms, a heated garage and a 1,000-square-foot landscaped patio.

Residence 5/6 is a 3,200-square-foot duplex with five bedrooms and a 750-square-foot landscaped roof deck.
