The Salem House, 520 East 81st Street: Review and Ratings

between York Avenue & East End Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 520 East 81st Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, red-brick, 12-story building was erected in 1964 and converted to a condominium in 1980. It has 163 apartments.

The mid-block building has a canopied entrance with a doorman and concierge and sidewalk landscaping. It has inconsistent fenestration, no garage, no balconies and no health club.

It is not far from Carl Schurz Park and the East River, several private schools and a south-bound entrance to the FDR Drive at 79th Street. There is good cross-town bus service on 79th Street, but the building is not close to the subways.
