The Cosmopolitan CLOSE
This 34-story, 207-unit condominium tower is the most attractive apartment tower close to Grand Central Terminal.
In an area surrounded by older hotel buildings and offices, this mid-block tower is a stunner and its vigorous and interesting design would lead one to think it was designed for a more exposed site on an avenue. It opened in 1986.
Although there is no major innovation here, the design by Gruzen Samton Steinglass works very well and elegantly.
The building was developed by the Zeckendorf organization.
Its major fa??ade facing south is superb with two extremely handsome columns of bay windows composed of five tall panes for the lower two-thirds of the building and a more complex treatment at the top of indented and cutout balconies. Many of the apartments boast corner windows.
The composition is very strong and the developers, William Zeckendorf Jr., and Harshad Shah, backed it up with many amenities such as a health club, pool, sundeck, entertainment room, concierge, garage and room service.
