Carter Horsley
Review of 100 Remsen Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, 8-story building at 100 Remsen Street at Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights was erected in 1950 and has 78 co-operative apartments.

It is directly across Remsen Street from the Our Lady of Lebanon Roman Catholic Church that was originally the Church of the Pilgrims, a Romanesque Revival-style building designed in 1844 by Richard Upjohn for Congregationalists with an impressive 1869 addition by Leopold Eidlitz.  Upjohn also designed Trinity Church in Manhattan.  Eidlitz designed the Times Tower in Times Square.  In 1945, the church purchased the bronze doors from the dining room of the French oceanliner, the Normandie, which had sunk at his pier in Manhattan in 1942.

Bottom Line

A plain but solid white-brick mid-rise building with multi-pane fenestration and a doorman in the heart of Brooklyn Heights across the street from one of the borough's major religious landmarks, Our Lady of Lebanon Roman Catholic Church, designed by Richard Upjohn.
