Rihanna investigates Midtown, John McEnroe sells uptown; Barack Obama’s student pad is for rent.
Pop star Rihanna recently visited the Cassa hotel and condominium at 70 West 45th Street to check out a four-bedroom penthouse on the rental market for upwards of $30k a month. The singer reportedly hopes to get a feel for the striking white midtown residence and the neighborhood before buying. The full-service building offers a fitness center, a garage and a lounge in addition to being near Bryant Park and the Theater District as well as transportation and other big-city amenities (NYPost).
While everyone has tennis on the brain: John McEnroe recently sold his apartment in the venerable Beresford co-op at 211 Central Park West. The one-bedroom co-op was listed for $3,250,000 and entered contract for $3.1 million one month later, according to reports. The park-adjacent building is in a classic Upper West Side neighborhood and is also home to comedian Jerry Seinfeld (CurbedNY).
Celebrity interior designer, TV host and Oprah pal Nate Berkus just bought more space to decorate in Greenwich Village. The designer–who is also known for his home-goods collab with Target–recently purchased a co-op at 39 Fifth Avenue. Berkus bought the high-floor three-bedroom duplex with a wraparound terrace for $5 million ($400k less than the ask) after selling his similarly-configured nearby apartment at 19 West 9th Street (NYO).
Fashion and preppy lifestyle scion Dylan Lauren, owner of the Upper East Side-based candy shop Dylan’s Candy Bar recently acquired a new home in the same neighborhood. Lauren and hedge-funder hubby Paul Arrouet bought a sun-filled three-bedroom co-op with original pre-war details at 125 East 72nd Street for $8.85 million (NYO).
The apartment where President Obama lived when he was a struggling Columbia University student is on the rental market for $2,495 a month. The two-bedroom prewar apartment at 142 West 109th Street has exposed brick, high ceilings, a walk-in closet and, of course, a bit of presidential cachet. The Harlem neighborhood boasts–in addition to proximity to the Columbia campus–a location just blocks from Central, Riverside and Morningside parks (NYPost).
