Overview
This 6-story building occupies the entire frontage of the avenue between 18th and 19th Streets and is distinguished by its very pronounced white façade banding. Erected in 1962, the 110-unit, doorman building, which has some sidewalk landscaping, was converted to a condominium in in 1985. This stretch of Seventh Avenue in Chelsea is rather open because of the presence of several utilitarian, low-rise buildings like this, which are unusual for avenue properties. When it was built, of course, the district was rather lackluster, but in the late 1990’s it has become very popular as many art galleries have moved to the area from SoHo and the bustling Flatiron and Union Square districts nearby have made it quite fashionable. A local subway station is at 18th Street and an express station at 14th Street. Crosstown buses run on 14th and 23rd Streets and Greenwich Village is south of 14th Street.
