This attractive, 36-story rental apartment tower is one of several erected by the Brodsky Organization in this area.
Built in 1991, it is across Amsterdam Avenue from the same developer's much larger South Park Tower rental building. This building has a more symmetrical top and rather traditional balconies as compared to those at South Park Tower, but it is not without its own idiosyncrasies. Its shaft is asymmetrical and it has an unusual pattern of corner windows some of which go up from the base only partially at one corner and down only partially from the top at another.
The massing of the top half of this tower is particularly pleasing as the sixth through the fourth balconies from the top are shifted away from the center two columns of balconies and the top of the building has a couple of setbacks. This alignment creates a strong horizontal emphasis to the top of the building that recalls to a certain extent the great Art Deco top of the former McGraw-Hill Building at 320 West 42nd Street, one of the West Side's most famous skyscrapers.
This building, which has about 8 apartments on most floors, has a health club, a concierge, a garage, video security, a sundeck, a bicycle room, storage, a children's playground, lanscaped private outdoor space and laundry facilities.
The building is known as the Concerto and is located at 200 West 60th Street.
While there has been substantial new development in this building's immediate vicinity, much of it has been undertaken by the same developer with the result that views and orientations have not been totally ignored.
One major new, non-Brodsky project is the nearby Time-Warner Center at Columbus Circle that has a very large and impressive Whole Foods Store in its basement.
The pet-friendly building is close to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and many fine stores and restaurants and not far from subway stations and bus lines.
