Revised rendering of 419-421 Broadway via Morris Adjmi Revised rendering of 419-421 Broadway via Morris Adjmi
At a hearing at the end of October, the Landmarks Preservation Commission asked Morris Adjmi Architects cto revise their design for a proposed commercial building at 419-421 Broadway, on the corner of Canal Street.

Local residents and officials expressed concern about the scale and character of the building in relation to the surrounding neighborhood. Commissioners noted that even bringing down the ceiling heights a few feet each would make a significant difference.

A new design has taken their words to heart: Ceiling heights have come down, columns have been removed from the roof, and the bulkhead has been redesigned. While the revised building still is slightly taller than its neighbors, the difference is not nearly so pronounced. The Landmarks Preservation Commission will review the revised plans in a hearing on December 12.
