Following the demolition of Trinity Church's 90-year-old parish house, the next stage for 74 Trinity Place got off to a turbulent start. However, plans for a new, 26-story building housing a community center and office tower designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli have just been approved. The new building, which faces Lower Manhattan’s historic Trinity Church, will house more than 98,000 square feet of community space, including classrooms, a café, and meeting room with floor-to-ceiling windows. Trinity Church offices will be on top, as will several floors of additional office space.

The new facility comes after opposition to the original plan for condominiums on the site. Pelli Clark Pelli won a competition to design the new building, but concerns about the look of the planned building and an influx of downtown development caused that plan to be scrapped. Construction has begun on the new building, and completion is estimated for 2019.
