An 11-story building with 38 condominium apartments is planned at 345 West 14th Street by DDG Partners.
H. Thomas O'Hara is the architect.
The Department of Buildings approved the permit April 29, 2011.
The building is around the corner from The Porter House, the Meatpacking District's iconic residential conversion and expansion and its design pays homage to it with the top three floors facing west clad in bronze in contrast with the rest of the light-gray, hand-laid Kolumba brick from Denmark.
The new building, which will seek a Silver LEED certification, will have a building-wide, "green, entrance marquee. It will also have a landscaped roof deck, 24/7 doorman and concierge, private elevator access, a fitness center, in-residence laundries, private storage, and a bicycle room.
A May 10, 2010 article by Anton Troianovski in The Wall Street Journal said that DDG had acquired the loan on the property that had been planned to be developer by Jay-Z and Andre Balazs at a discount in April,2010. Jay-Z and Balazs had joined with Charles Blaichman and Abram Shnay to pay $30 million for the three-story building at the location. That group had filed plans for a 11-story hotel but subsequently it defaulted on a $24 million mortgage and CapitalSource, the lender, rejected a Federal Express package with the deed, according to the article. DDG acquired the loan from CapitalSource for $15.5 million, the article said.
