The Westmont is a handsome, 16-story rental apartment building at 730 Columbus Avenue between 95th and 96th Streets that was erected in 1986.

It has 163 apartments.

It was designed by the Eggers Partnership and bought by Archstone-Smith in July, 2006 for $87.8 million. It was acquired by Equity Residential in 2012.

There is a good public transportation in this neighborhood and Central Park is one block to the east.

Bottom Line

A pleasant apartment building on the southwest corner of 96th Street and Columbus Avenue, this building is very convenient to Central Park and public transportation.

Description

The red-brick building’s façade is enlivened by slightly recessed light-colored bays and many small stone squares. Its north and south façade has narrow and broad windows on alternate floors and the south end has only 9 floors.

The building has about 9,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.

The building has a simplified crenellation at its roofline accented by a row of small stone squares.

Amenities

The building, which is pet-friendly, has a roof deck, a fitness center, a garage and a 24-hour concierge.

It also has a disabled ramp, bicycle storage, a laundry facility, a children’s playroom, a Wi-Fi lounge, and a residents’ party room.

Apartments

Apartments have some corner windows, dishwashers and discrete air-conditioners.

There are some terraces.

Kitchens have espresso-finished cabinetry, granite countertops, self-cleaning ovens and stainless-steel appliances.

Bathrooms have three-panel, mirrored medicine cabinets.

A studio apartment has a entry foyer that leads past an enclosed kitchen to a 27-foot-long living/dining area adjacent to a large sleeping area.
