Review of 139 East 79th Street by Carter Horsley

This very handsome, brown-brick apartment house was erected in 1928 and converted to a cooperative in 1946. The 16-story building has only 16 apartments.

It has a very attractive, two-story sandstone base with a gray granite bottom and a very nice rope quoin at the comer. The building has a doorman, a canopied entrance and consistent, multi-paned windows. It has no sidewalk landscaping and permits protruding air-conditioners. The building is just to the east of a large branch of Hunter College of The City of New York.

The neighborhood is one of the most elegant on the Upper East Side. There are numerous schools and religious and cultural institutions nearby. Public transportation is excellent and convenient as is neighborhood shopping.
