Overview of 139 East 79th Street

Built in 1928 and converted to a cooperative in 1946, this elegant 16-story prewar building features 14 full-floor apartments. The brown-brick façade is complemented by a two-story sandstone base with gray granite detailing and a rope quoin at the corner. While there is no sidewalk landscaping, the building has multi-paned windows and permits protruding air-conditioners.

The full-service cooperative includes a doorman, a live-in resident manager, and private storage. Pets are allowed and financing is capped at 50%.

Located in a prime Upper East Side neighborhood near a Hunter College branch, the building is surrounded by schools, cultural and religious institutions, and excellent shopping and dining options. Public transportation is highly accessible.

Carter’s Review

"This very handsome, brown-brick apartment house was erected in 1928 and converted to a cooperative in 1946. The 16-story building has only 16 apartments.

The neighborhood is one of the most elegant on the Upper East Side. There are numerous schools and religious and cultural institutions nearby. Public transportation is excellent and convenient as is neighborhood shopping."

Sales History

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
