Mayfair Towers is a 37 story, 497-unit cooperative at 15 West 72nd Street, completed in 1964 and designed by Horace Ginsbern & Associates. The white brick building replaced the tennis courts of the adjacent Dakota and was notable for having the city's first incinerator-less refuse disposal system. Its central tower is flanked by two mid-rise wings, with balconies on the east and west façades, and upper floors offer expansive views of the city and Central Park. The building converted to cooperative ownership in 1980.
Residents benefit from full-service staffing that includes a 24-hour doorman and concierge, on-site superintendent, live-in resident manager, handymen, and porters. Amenities include a fitness center, laundry facilities on every floor, a landscaped courtyard with children's playground, valet service with tailoring, bike and storage rooms, an on-site parking garage with Zipcar access, and a landscaped roof terrace with panoramic views of Central Park and the city skyline.
Apartments typically feature hardwood or parquet floors, oversized windows, and abundant closet space with custom built-ins. Kitchens are often updated with premium appliances including Sub-Zero refrigerators and Viking ranges, stone countertops, and custom cabinetry. Two-bedroom units generally offer split bedroom layouts for privacy, with primary suites featuring walk-in closets and en-suite baths. Select units include private balconies with views of historic townhouses and the city. Washer/dryer installation is permitted with board approval.
The building permits pied-à-terre ownership, co-purchasing, parents buying for children, and subletting with board approval. Pets are welcome, and financing up to 66% is allowed. The location provides immediate access to Central Park, Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural History, and excellent shopping including Zabar's, Trader Joe's, Fairway, and Citarella, with multiple subway lines and bus routes within two blocks.

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.
By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
