550 West 21st Street is a new 23-story waterfront condominium rising at the corner of West 21st Street and the Hudson River Greenway in West Chelsea. Developed by Legion Investment Group, the project occupies one of the last major development sites of scale along this stretch of the waterfront, directly across from Chelsea Piers and between Hudson River Park and the High Line. The 83-residence building will span approximately 172,000 square feet and is projected for completion in 2027.
The design by Thomas Juul-Hansen reflects a material-driven, contextual approach, with a façade of hand-laid Italian brick and limestone that anchors the building within West Chelsea’s gallery district. A carefully composed base introduces a sequence of arrival moments, including a porte-cochère and motor court framed by greenery, leading to a landscaped courtyard with birch trees and tiered plantings. Above, a series of setbacks creates private terraces and loggias, softening the building’s massing while opening up views toward the Hudson River, Midtown skyline, and surrounding historic neighborhoods .
Residences are designed to emphasize light, views, and indoor-outdoor living, with more than 75 percent of homes featuring private outdoor space and many offering direct river views. Upper floors will command sweeping panoramas of the Hudson River, New York Harbor, and the New Jersey Palisades, while others look northeast over the historic district and Midtown skyline .
