This 21-story rental apartment building at 221 West 29th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in Chelsea was completed in 2017 and has 95 apartments.  It is known as Chelsea29.

It was developed by CBSK Ironstate and designed by Hill West Architects. CBSK Ironstate is a real estate development joint venture of CB Developers, SK Development, and Ironstate Development and that venture built the 29-story, 57-unit condominium tower at 301 East 50th Street.

Twenty percent of the apartments in this building are “affordable.”

The building has 671 square feet of retail space.

It is close to the Fashion Institute of Technology and a subway station at 28th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Its site was formerly a parking lot.

Bottom Line

This attractive, mid-block apartment building has the look of many industrial buildings that populated the Garment Center to the north.

Description

The building has 5 setbacks and three major window bays. 

Its large limestone piers are topped by T-shaped finials in dark metal finish and the building has a broad dark bandcourse above its second floor.

The building has a large, two-tiered glass entrance marquee over its revolving door entrance.

It has no sidewalk landscaping.

The building has a doorman, a garage, bicycle storage, tenant storage, a roof deck on the 20th floor and a laundry.
