Townhouse located in Crown Heights, between Prospect Place & Park Place
Description of 190 New York Avenue
190 New York Avenue is a four-story townhouse in the Saint Mark's District of Crown Heights designed by Edward P. York, best known as architect to Rockefeller. It was built at the end of the nineteenth century and abounds in prewar details like high ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces, original moldings, and hardwood floors. The home was originally built for John Simmons, and Academy Award nominee Ethel Waters later lived there as a tenant and was interviewed there by Edward R. Murrow. It is located on a tree-lined street near Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Nostrand Avenue LIRR and subway stops, and several local restaurants and bars.
