101 East 10th Street began as a 2007 residence hall for The School of Visual Arts, also known as 47 to 53 Third Avenue. Slate Property Group and RWN Real Estate Partners acquired the vacant residential portion in 2014 and converted it to rentals, adding three floors during the project. Aufgang Architects was initially hired, with Grasso Menziuso Architects later brought in for the expanded design, which was completed in 2016.
The red brick building contains 57 rental apartments, with studios and one and two bedroom layouts. Apartments commonly have open kitchens, stainless steel appliances, marble bathrooms, spacious closets, and in unit washer and dryer appliances. Private terraces recur among the layouts, along with eastern, western, southern, and combined southern and western exposures; some residences have open views.
Building services include a part time doorman, virtual doorman, package room, renovated hallways, a roof deck, and a live in superintendent. The building is dog friendly and has ground floor retail, including a bank branch. Its East Village location is two blocks north of Cooper Union and St. Mark’s Place, with Grace Episcopal Church one block to the east and Astor Place and Greenwich Village nearby.
