This 59-building Flatbush Gardens apartment complex has about 2,500 rental units in Flatbush and was erected in 1950 on the site of the Flatbush Water Works.

The red-brick complex is bound by Foster, Brooklyn, Newkirk and Nostrand avenues and used to be known as Vanderveer Estates.

It was acquired by Clipper Equity, which is headed by David Bitricer, in 2005 for $138.5 million from a California pension fund.

Bottom Line

Rusticated quoins, landscaping, children’s playgrounds and handball courts enhance this large Central Brooklyn mid-rise rental complex. 

Description

The buildings have rusticated quoins and simple cornice treatments with a slightly raised rectangular boxes.

The buildings have fire-escapes tucked into the corner of the lightwells and sidewalk landscaping.

The complex has children’s playgrounds, handball courts, a daycare center, garages, live-in superintendents and laundry rooms.
