Park 23 is a 17 story Gramercy Park rental whose 1892 structure was built as the headquarters of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Designed by Renwick, Aspinwall & Renwick, the building has a yellow brick façade with modest terra cotta ornament, including seventh floor panels depicting children that refer to its original use.
Abi Kalimian converted the property to rental apartments in 1982, creating 179 residences. Many apartments have high ceilings, terraces, or duplex layouts, giving the building a broader range of configurations than its formal pre-war exterior suggests.
Park 23 has an attended lobby with a full time doorman, a laundry room, and a live-in superintendent. Pets are not allowed.
The building occupies the southeast corner of Park Avenue South and East 23rd Street. Madison Square Park is one block west, Gramercy Park is two blocks southeast, and the 6 train stops at the 23rd Street station at Park Avenue South.
