159 Bleecker Street is an eight story pre war rental building that was expanded in 2006 from a two story theater structure. The site formerly housed the Bleecker Street Playhouse, the Luxor Theater, Amato Opera, and the Off Broadway Circle in the Square Theater; the expansion was developed and designed by Emmut Properties principal John Young. Its light pink brick upper façade rises above a two story red brick retail base with an angled marquee and a black, multi paned entrance.

The building contains 16 apartments between Thompson and Sullivan Streets in Greenwich Village. Its residential services include a roof deck, a fitness room, laundry, storage, a live in superintendent, and a virtual doorman; a renovated lobby and new roof deck are also noted. Balconies and terraces are recurring features in the apartment layouts, including unusually large private outdoor spaces, while apartments range from roughly 630 square feet to more than 1,025 square feet.

Apartment layouts include one bedroom, convertible two bedroom, and larger converted three and four bedroom homes, with some configurations organized around separate living areas and interior bedrooms or offices. Renovated kitchens and bathrooms, dishwashers, hardwood floors, recessed lighting, and individually controlled heating and cooling recur in the more recently marketed homes. South facing exposures and quiet outlooks over neighboring buildings and treetops are also represented, along with private balconies and terraces.

The building is directly across Bleecker Street from the former Mills House, now the Atrium, and from the theater that once housed Art D’Lugoff’s Village Gate. Washington Square Park is within two blocks, and the West 4th Street station serves the A, C, E, B, D, F, and M trains; nearby stations also include Houston Street on the 1 train and Bleecker Street on the 6 train.
