Carter's Review
This attractive, 12-story residential building at 51 Garden Street between Vezzetti Way and Newark Street in Hoboken was erected in 1991.
It has 115 rental apartments of which 20 percent are affordable.
Applied Companies was the developer.
Applied initiated the development in 1986 when it planned this and two other near buildings with a total of about 500 units with Hartz Mountain Industries. Community opposition to the scale of the venture and the need to remove mercury on the site delayed the project and Hartz Mountain pulled out.
Becher & Wolcynzki was the architect.
The building is two blocks from the Hoboken PATH train station and NJ Transit at Hudson Place and River Road and four blocks from the New York Waterways Ferry at 1 Hudson Place and one block to the shopping and dining on Washington Street.
Bottom Line
A bland, orange, mid-rise residential building that has many amenities and convenient transportation and shopping and dining.
Description
The orange-brick building has a cornice, sidewalk landscaping and discrete air-conditioners.
