Review of 170 East 79th Street by Carter Horsley

This pleasant, 16-story apartment house was erected in 1926 and converted to a cooperative in 1962. It has only 23 apartments.

The brown-brick, mid-block building has a four-story limestone base and a balustraded roofline. The top floor has decorative balconies and the façade has one bandcourse. It has sidewalk landscaping and permits protruding air-conditioners. The façade of the doorman building, which has inconsistent fenestration, is given a subtle vertical accent with four thin masonry piers.

It has no garage and no health club.

There are numerous schools and religious and cultural institutions nearby. Public transportation is excellent as is neighborhood shopping.
