Construction of a 16-story, mid-block, "sliver" condominium apartment building is underway at 949 Park Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets.

Benjamin Soleimani is the developer. C3D Architects, of which Demir Sehic is a partner, is the architectural firm.

The Department of Buildings issued a permit for the entire project, which will have a dark glass facade, March 18, 2010. It will have 12 apartments.

The site was formerly a two-story building that once housed the World Monuments Fund.

According to an article in The New York Times by Christopher Gray May 8, 1994, it was built in 1854 for Alfred P. Arnold, a mason, and a 1915 photograph showed the building with a window sign that read "Lincoln Markets - D. Werdenschlag."

"By the 1950s an interior decorator had displaced the cold cuts, and Ruth Blumka, an art dealer, leased the building in 1975, moving up from East 57th Street," according to the article.

Mr. Soleimani was involved in the creation of Hotel 41 on West 41st Street near Times Square.
