Pomegranate Realty, of which Ron Shoshany is a principal, is adding 14 floors to the four-story commercial building at 67 Liberty Street adjacent to the former New York Chamber of Commerce Building in Lower Manhattan.

Mitch Newman of the Newman Design Group of Cold Spring Harbor, L.I., is the architect for the project, which will contain 12 residential condominium apartments.

The Department of Buildings issued a permit for the project August 12, 2009.

The original five-story facade of the commercial building is being retained. Two floors are being adding directly above it and 12 more will be added in a setback tower that will have some balconies.

The building has a central location in the Financial District that is convenient to public transportation.

The Chamber of Commerce Building was erected in 1902 and designed by James B. Baker and is one of Lower Manhattan's most impressive Beaux-Arts structure.

The Chamber of Commerce relocated in 1980 and in 1989 it was acquired by the International Commercial Bank of China. It has a spectacular Great Hall that measures 90 by 60 feet and is 30-feet high. The building's exterior was designated a landmark by the city in 1966.
