As part of new Bronx development La Central, Breaking Ground has partnered with Comunilife to develop 160 units of supportive and affordable housing for formerly homeless individuals and low-income New Yorkers. Sixty percent of units have been set aside for formerly homeless individuals with special needs, and an affordable lottery has just launched for the remaining 63 units.
Qualifying individuals have until July 31, 2019 to apply for studios for $650/month. Building amenities include 24-hour security, courtyard, fitness room, computer lab, laundry room, bike room, and on-site support services. Further information is available here.

The supportive building is being constructed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program of New York State Homes and Community Renewal, and the Supportive Housing Loan Program of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Like all buildings in La Central, it is designed by FXCollaborative and will feature low-flow fixtures and water-efficient appliances. Additionally, over 600,000 watts of solar panels will power co-generation and provide up to 50 percent savings on energy in the process.

The supportive residence is part of a five-building, 1.1-million-square-foot development. The entire project will contain 992 mixed-income units, a state-of-the-art 50,000-square-foot YMCA, a television studio, a skate park, and several community facilities. Future Green Studio is developing several landscaped outdoor areas, and a 9,000-square-foot rooftop farm will be managed by GrowNYC. The supportive residence is expected to open in fall 2019, and the completion of La Central is expected for 2022.
