On Sunday, November 3, 2024, New York City saw its 53rd annual marathon, an energetic and joyful prelude to this week's more serious races at the polls. The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon was a record-breaking event, with 55,646 finishers completing the iconic 26.2-mile course through the five boroughs. Ideal, seasonally cool weather provided the perfect conditions, energizing the more than 50,000 runners cheered on by crowds.
Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui triumphed in the women's division, clocking in at 2:24:35 and finishing 15 seconds ahead of last year's champion, Hellen Obiri. The men’s race saw Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands finish first with a time of 2:07:39, edging out 2022 champion Evans Chebet. American athletes Daniel Romanchuck and Susannah Scaroni won the male and female wheelchair divisions, the first time both titles were claimed by Americans.
