Under happier circumstances, New Yorkers with private balconies would be taking advantage of the warming weather to have friends over for effortless indoor/outdoor parties. Depending on the address, they might also be able to host get-togethers during the New York City Marathon from the comfort of their homes later this year.

In this time of social distancing, though, races all over the world have been cancelled and private balconies are being used to steal a bit of fresh air without joining a crowd. However, people remain united: New Yorkers are leaned out their windows and stepping out onto their balconies to give healthcare workers, grocery store workers, and other essential workers a two-minute round of applause in support for their response to the coronavirus crisis. Some are doing it every night, but Time Out New York reports that the group that led the first cheer has set a goal of making every Friday's the biggest one yet.
