There is no question that a famous name can work wonders to draw attention to a real estate listing. However, this does not always translate to quick sales. Moreover, The Wall Street Journal noted that in the age of social media and Google Maps, it is easier than ever for fans to find famous addresses; while this can make for fun photo ops for passers-by, it can make a home that is supposed to be a sanctuary feel a little less relaxing.

Apartment buildings offer something of a buffer, but famous townhouses are more exposed for fans and owners alike. One example is 1989 Madison Avenue, also known as "the Harlem House." Not only was it previously owned by The Cardigans lead singer Nina Persson, but her gut renovation of the house has been featured in design magazines. It was originally listed for $3,495,000, but has been reduced to $2,500,000.
