Review of 136 East 56th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, gray-brick, 16-story apartment building was erected in 1959. It is a cooperative and has 148 units.

The building has a one-story black granite base with a white marble entrance surround. The canopied entrance has spiked sidewalk landscaping. The building has a doorman, a garage, a roof deck, and a garden but no balconies, no health club and considerable traffic. It is adjacent to a mid-block building owned by the Republic of Zimbabwe.

This neighborhood is very convenient the Midtown office district and there are many restaurants and stores in the area. There is excellent cross-town bus service on 57th Street and a subway station is three blocks north at Bloomingdale's.
