Review of 505 West 37th Street by Carter Horsley

This is quite a handsome, two-tower rental apartment complex at 505 West 37th Street on Tenth Avenue that was erected in 2009 by Rockrose and is now owned by TF Cornerstone, one of its successor companies.

It was designed by Gary Handel Architects, whose other projects include Aire and 170 Amsterdam Avenue in the Lincoln Center area and the Enclave just north of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights.

This project consists of a 43-story tower with 463 units and a 34-story tower with 373 units.

It is not far from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to the west and the Hudson Yards project to the south.

It is across Tenth Avenue from another TF Cornerstone rental apartment complex, the 500-unit, 32-story glass tower at 455 West 37th Street, also designed by Mr. Handel.

Bottom Line

A very attractive rental complex of two glass towers with many balconies and amenities including a large garden courtyard with curved lawns with illuminated edges and a large infinity edge reflecting pool with built in seating areas on its perimeter, all near the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to the west and the Hudson Yards complex to the south.

Description

This mixed-use development has 22,000 square feet of retail space and a 14,000-square-foot residential lobby and amenity space.

Both towers have many balconies and each has one jagged façade.

The shorter tower has an angled roofline.

The east tower has an 8-story base along Tenth Avenue with light-colored stone framing and inset windows and corner windows.

The complex has a large, lushly landscaped garden courtyard with curved lawns with illuminated edges and globular lights and a large and impressive infinity edge reflecting pool with built in seating areas on its perimeter.
