This very handsome and dignified, red-brick apartment building at occupies the entire Madison Avenue blockfront between 36th and 37th streets across from The Morgan Library.

Known as the John Murray House, its address is 220 Madison Avenue. It is also known as 16-18 East 37th Street.

It was built in 1940 and designed by Kenneth B. Norton, who also designed the similar Helmsley Carlton House on Madison Avenue between 60th and 61st streets.

This 14-story building contains 206 cooperative apartments.

Its lower three floors have white stone pilasters and the well-proportioned building has four stringcourses and several terraces.
