372 Lafayette Street is a six story rental building in NoHo designed by Morris Adjmi and completed in 2016. Its gray metal façade is framed by red brick accents on the second through fifth floors, while rounded corner columns at Great Jones Street add a subtle variation to the otherwise disciplined composition.
Developed by Great Jones Lafayette LLC, with Noah Shemel as a principal, the building contains 11 apartments and an attended lobby. The top floor continues the façade treatment below, but its recessed penthouse structures leave the spaces between the girder like mullions open. A triple bandcourse caps the façade, while the lower bandcourses align with those of the neighboring 10 Bond Street.
The building occupies the southwest corner of Lafayette Street and Great Jones Street, directly across from the 1889 Schermerhorn Building by Henry J. Hardenbergh. It also sits near 10 Bond Street, 25 Bond Street, and 40 Bond Street, bringing together work by Adjmi, Annabelle Selldorf, BKSK Architects, and Herzog & de Meuron in a compact pocket of architectural interest.
The site had earlier been approved for a similarly massed development made from shipping containers, designed by David Wallance in 2006. The completed building instead presents a residential design with retail spaces flanking its Lafayette Street entrance and a restrained façade that relates closely to its historic and contemporary neighbors.
