98 Riverside Drive is a 16 story, 133 unit rental building at the southeast corner of West 82nd Street, designed by George F. Pelham and completed in 1929. Its slightly curved orange brick façade incorporates a chamfered corner, decorative window surrounds and an ornate three story limestone entrance on West 82nd Street.
The apartment mix extends from two room studios to expansive four bedroom plans. Larger layouts often use long entry foyers and distinct dining spaces, while beamed ceilings and hardwood floors recur at several sizes. Many west facing rooms overlook Riverside Park and the Hudson River, and a number of renovated homes have in-unit laundry.
The building has a full time doorman, central laundry room, resident storage and fitness center, and pets are permitted. Riverside Park and a playground are directly across Riverside Drive, while Broadway’s restaurants and shops are two blocks east.
The Racolin family owned 98 Riverside Drive for about half a century before the property became part of a nine building Manhattan portfolio acquired by Northbrook Partners in 2008. The family’s real estate holdings originated with Mendel Racolin, a Russian dentist who entered the business around 1930 and supported Jewish cultural, scientific and humanitarian initiatives.
