Between Broadway & West End Avenue

This very  handsome, 18-story, mid-block apartment building at 267 West 67th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue is known as West End and Eighty Seven, and was erected in 2016.

It was built by Simon Baron Development, which is headed by Jonathan Simon and Matthew Baron, and Quadrum Global and designed by FXFowle, whose other recent buildings in the city include Greenwich Lane and 35XV.

Alexandra Champalimaud is the interior designer.

It has 39 apartments.

According to a July 7, 2016 article by Will Parker at, "Simon Baron and Quadrum do not own the site but are leasing it for 99 years from the current owner, Riverview Operating Companies."  "The partners signed the $90 million land lease at 269 West 87th Street in 2015...Because the building is going upon leased land, a co-op-type structure must be used for the building's residential apartments.  A representative for Simon Baron Development referred to the units  as 'condops,' a term typically used for projects with commercial components but sometimes also to indicate a co-op building with more condo-style management rules."

Bottom Line

A substantial mid-block apartment building with a fine and convenient Upper West Side location, this development has numerous unexpected grace notes and detailing.

An almost symmetrical building with staggered setbacks on its west side and detailed masonry, this light gray building is highlighted by projecting piers and metallic grills around its roof-top mechanical spaces and ground-floor spaces.

The “grill” treatment is also just to the west of the entrance which has a textured glass and metal marquee with a bronze finish and there are some corner windows on the western side of the building and some Juliet balconies in the center of its street façade.

The building has inset windows and broad spandrels with basketweave detailing.

There are numerous corner windows.

The handsome, broad and ribbed bandcourses on the street façade have speckled markings on part of the side components, a nice and intriguing touch.

The building has a two-story lobby with Shagreen paneling, white travertine floors, and a sculptural lighting installation.  There is an entry ramp.

The building has a garden courtyard with a green wall and sidewalk landscaping.

The building has a 24-hour concierge, cold storage, a library lounge with a fireplace, a fitness center, a sports court with rock climbing walls, and a bronze stair case from the lobby to the garden level.
