139 Wooster Street is a 16 unit boutique condominium completed in 2007 on one of SoHo's cobblestone streets between Prince and Houston. Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Arun Bhatia Development Corporation, the building is a through-block project connecting 139 Wooster Street and 455 West Broadway via a Japanese garden featuring bamboo, a maple tree, and a water feature with Brazilian Ipe wood decking. The eight story Wooster Street façade is distinguished by broad dark grey metal spandrels that drew some debate during the Landmarks Preservation Commission review, though the design was ultimately approved and compared favorably to Philip Johnson's "black" buildings.
The building contains two to four bedroom residences ranging from approximately 1,447 to 4,252 square feet, with just two homes per floor accessed by keyed elevator. Units feature 11 foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, Brazilian wide plank white oak floors, and in-unit Bosch washer/dryers. Kitchens are outfitted with Cashmere Gold granite counters, sleek cabinetry, and Sub-Zero, Miele, and Bosch appliances. Bathrooms include Wenge wood vanities with Lagos Azul stone counters, Oyster beige marble floors and walls, and Neptune soaking tubs. Select residences feature balconies, while the penthouse duplexes boast expansive roof terraces. Many units include large private storage rooms in the basement, some temperature controlled and cedar lined.
Amenities include a 24 hour doorman and concierge in a lobby finished with Venetian plaster walls, burnished cherry wood, and Vellebois Jaune limestone flooring. The building offers a fitness center and the shared Japanese garden courtyard, which is a rare feature for SoHo condominiums. Ground floor retail spaces occupy both the Wooster Street and West Broadway frontages. The building sold out in early 2007 with initial pricing ranging from $1,920,000 to $7,995,000, and the site was acquired from Hyatt Hotels for $9,800,000 in 2004.
