Carter's Review

This very handsome, 6-story building at 63 Greene Street in SoHo was erected in 1877 as a store for E. Oelbermann & Co., whose name appears on the large and plain cornice.

It was designed by Edward H. Kendell.

It was converted in 2016 to a residential condominium a few years ago by AOIN Partners. Marren and Newman Architects handled the conversion.

The building has 15 apartments and a prime location in SoHo.  Its site was once occupied by a Methodist church.

Bottom Line

A large and very attractive mid-block residential commercial of a 19th Century commercial building on one of the nicest cobblestone streets in SoHo.

Description

This mid-block building has a very sprightly façade with red bricks and a great deal of light-colored stone decoration including bandcourses with circular elements and a rusticated ground floor.  There are curved pediments above the end windows on the 5th floor and angled metal rods on two of the central piers

The cornice has a central peak and smaller peaks at its ends.

Amenities

The building has a roof deck, bicycle storage and a live-in superintendent.  The building has no sidewalk landscaping, no doorman, no concierge, no gym and no children’s playroom.

Apartments

Apartments have 12-foot-high ceilings, Lefroy Brooks fixtures, Sub-Zero refrigerators, Bertazzoni gas ovens and fumed white oak flooring.

Penthouse A is a four-bedroom unit with 3,597 square feet of interior space and 1,042 square feet of external space.

Apartment 4D is a three-bedroom unit with 2,402 square feet and a 31-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen with an island.

Apartment 3A is a three-bedroom unit with 2,400 square feet and a 37-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen with an island.

Apartment 5C is a two-bedroom unit with 1,768 square feet and a 23-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen with an island.
