Castle Village

Complex located in Washington Heights

Castle Village is an apartment complex developed by Charles V. Paterno and built on the former site of his castle-like residence on a high bluff in Washington Heights. George F. Pelham Jr. designed the five-building cooperative complex, and outbuildings on the southern edge of the property were repurposed into the community room, the management office, and a collection of four cottage-like residences.

Upon completion in 1939, Castle Village won an award for excellence from the American Institute of Architects. It was constructed as a rental property but converted to cooperatives in 1985. Its lofty position allows for views of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge in many units.

Residents of all Castle Village buildings enjoy access to 7.5 acres of lushly landscaped grounds with gardens, walkways, playgrounds, and picnic areas. All buildings have attended lobbies, laundry rooms, rooftop decks, bike storage, and private storage. Complex-wide amenities include a fitness center, an indoor children's play area, and a community room.

Castle Village is located in close proximity to Fort Tryon Park, Riverside Park, the Met Cloisters, the Little Red Lighthouse, and popular Upper Manhattan dining and retail. Nearby public transportation options include the West 181st Street A and 1 trains.
