West Village Houses

Complex located in West Village

The West Village Houses complex dates back to 1961, when it was built with the support of New York City and New York State, and with the blessing of Jane Jacobs. It was originally constructed as Mitchell-Lama housing, but plans to convert the cooperatives to market-rate units go back to 2002. The Bloomberg administration made a deal to sell the units to residents through the Housing Development Fund Corporation in 2006. In June 2020, a deal to convert the properties to market-rate cooperatives was completed.

The small-scale buildings of West Village Houses are surrounded by landscaped grounds, and amenities include central laundry rooms and bike storage. West Village Houses is in a prime Far West Village location near Hudson River Park, popular Village restaurants and nightlife, and prominent cultural institutions.
