The Metropolitan is a 2007 rental building at 349 Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg that began as a 35 unit condominium before the financial crisis reshaped its development and ownership. It was later converted to a 42 unit rental building, with Avi Galapu as developer and Gary H. Silver as architect.
The seven story building has a two tone façade, an interior courtyard, and a landscaped garden with a four story mural by local artist R. Nicholad Kuszyk. Its history is unusually visible: after the original developer defaulted, the property stood vacant and sustained vandalism before Masada Metropolitan LLC acquired the project, replaced the unsafe façade, and completed the construction.
At the building, amenities include central air conditioning, a full service garage, fitness center, laundry room, rooftop terrace, bike storage, private storage, an outdoor play area, and on site management and maintenance staff. The property is pet friendly, and its courtyard and roof areas provide the principal shared outdoor spaces.
Apartments commonly have hardwood or bamboo flooring, recessed lighting, stainless steel appliances, dishwashers, granite countertops, and galley kitchens with substantial cabinetry. Outdoor space is a recurring feature, ranging from balconies and private terraces to roof decks and ground floor backyards; some layouts also include en suite primary bathrooms and in unit washers and dryers. The building is rent stabilized and sits in North Williamsburg near Bedford Avenue, Whole Foods, Apple, Equinox, restaurants, cafes, and shops.
